The Choirs of The Colorado Springs Childrens Chorale
The Colorado Springs Children's Chorale has five choirs and a prep class, ranging from training choirs all the way up to our premier performing and touring choirs. Comprised of children from Kindergarten through high school, there is tremendous opportunity for children of all ages.
When ready to enter the 9th grade or at any high school grade, young adult singers may audition for this internationally recognized mixed voice ensemble. Performing some of the most challenging repertoire available, this group recently performed as part of the world premier of Eric Whitacre’s opera, Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings at Carnegie Hall, as well as the critically acclaimed collaboration with Colorado College to present the regional premier of Lori Laitman’s Holocaust oratorio Vedem. This group is the crème de la crème and their performances reflect the high standards that are required as a part of this ensemble. Many of the Summit Ensemble’s alumni have been accepted to music programs at schools across the nation including Northwestern, St. Olaf, and UNC.
Pikes Peak Singers
Our premier treble choir continues to deliver professional level concerts close to home and around the world. This group is challenged at every rehearsal to continually progress vocally as an ensemble, as individual singers, and in their overall foundation of musical knowledge. The Pikes Peak Singers have received a variety of awards, including two first-place medals from world class caliber choir competitions. The Pikes Peak Singers stay very busy with concerts throughout the year, including regional tours, and national/international summer tour opportunities.
Our apprentice choir (Grade 4 and up) is made up of a group of young performers who are ready to go the next mile in their musical journey here at the Children’s Chorale. This group will learn to sing multi-part music, learn to sight sing, and understand basic music theory. They will perform several times each semester, including the two big productions in December and late spring. Springs Singers are evaluated each semester, and may be considered for promotion to Pikes Peak Singers.
The Choral Academy
The Choral Academy is a training program for young singers who may not have any experience in choral singing but who love to sing. This choir enables singers to learn good choral techniques, musical discipline and the foundations of musicianship, and parents to see first-hand the benefits of Children’s Chorale. This training ground will help both singers and parents learn more about the Chorale experience before committing to the rigors of the higher level choirs. For singers in grades 3-7. Singers must be able to sing in tune and to focus their attention for rehearsals.
